Title: Quality Engineer

Reports to: Quality Manager

To add Quality support for continued growth in sales and new product offerings emphasizing front-end planning and prevention activities over appraisal and scrap related activities.


Supports the Quality Management System, Machine Shop, and Assembly.


  • Evaluates and participates in the PPAP process at the item level. This will include participating in:
    • Quality Planning for initial approval (PPAP)
    • Quality Planning for ongoing production (Control Plan)
    • Risk Analysis
    • Gage Selection
    • Process Capability requirements
    • FMEA participation if needed
    • Vendor communication/issue resolution
    • Gage R&R studies
    • Evaluation of submitted PPAP data
    • Entering PPAP data into uniPoint
  • Assists the Quality Manager in evaluating and optimizing incoming inspection requirements of purchased items based upon empirical data, criticality, and risk of escape.
  • Works with the machine shop in optimizing inspection plans, frequencies, and methods of testing. Evaluates processes and makes suggestions when processes could be improved.
  • Help the Assembly area with issues that are causing failures, scrap, loss of time, etc.
  • Aid the Quality Manager with NC’s, CA’s, EC’s as needed and/or directed.
  • Support the Quality System Specialist with:
    • QMS audits
    • Projects as directed by the Quality Manager




  • College degree (BS/BA) such as Industrial or Mechanical Engineering or,
  • ASQ certified quality engineer with 4+ yrs experience or,
  • 6+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment needing analysis and troubleshooting skills.
  • 6+ years’ experience in an ISO 9000 environment.



  • Good blueprint reading skills including GD&T.
  • Good understanding of basic measurement and test equipment
    • Accuracy vs Precision vs Resolution.
    • 10:1 rule.
    • Repeatability, Reproducibility, GRR, Measurement uncertainty.
    • Bias, Stability, Linearity.
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel.
  • Any manufacturing/Quality Degrees/Certifications that apply to Wanner’s environment.
  • Able to leverage and use the 7 quality tools to analyze/communicate processes & data:
    • Flow diagrams
    • Check Sheets
    • Histograms
    • Pareto Charts
    • Cause and Effect Diagrams (Fishbone or Ishikawa)
    • Scatter Plots
    • Control Charts
  • Knowledgeable in ISO 9001 requirements
